play Up One Level not an important image Day Hiking Photos from Stutfield GlacierMay 15, 2010

Stutfield Glacier is the glacier no one bothers to visit. It cannot be used to access the icefield and requires crossing the Sunwapta River to access. The river crossing can be very dangerous in periods of high flow. But in May the crossing was no more that a foot deep. For this trip park just off the side of the Icefields Parkway heading South just before the railing starts and the road heads steeply uphill to the Icefield. The total round trip distance is about 12km and is very flat. It took us about 2 and half hours total. Unless you are experienced in river crossings I would strongly advise not attempting a crossing in the months of June, July or August
