play Up One Level not an important image Scrambling Photos from Elbe PeakJune 14, 2009

On our second day out I figured that we would try out Elbe Peak. I didn't think that this would be a summit day, but I figured that since everyone liked scrambling so much from the previous day that Elbe Peak would provide them with some more entertaining terrain. I was very correct about that. It turned out to be a little too much for them and we turned around. The scrambling was fantastic but difficult. I got some great route ideas for when I make a real summit bid for this peak.
Our route followed a gully from the Siffleur Falls Trails past the first falls into the heart of the Ex Coelis Complex. From there, we ascended the North gully by Elbe Peak. It leads to a col which we didn't quite reach. From the col it is uncertain if there is a way to the top. However, the North Ridge looked very promising from the gully. So maybe that is the better route up. The gully is very fun and full of lots of interesting scrambling. But the North ridge is probably faster and easier. From the North ridge you could also access the col and make an attempt at Rhine Peak as well. I plan on trying this next time I go there. I have one person from this trip that is very interested in trying it out.

Looking up to the North Ridge. Not a great photo but at least shows that it could be a decent ascent route.
