play Up One Level not an important image Scrambling Photos from Mount Ernest RossJune 13, 2009

I decided to return to Mount Ernest Ross with the Grant MacEwan Mountain Club since I liked it so much. Actually, this was an experiment to see if this was a good trip for beginners. However, nobody that signed up was a beginner. I still think that it would be good for beginners. All of us had a blast. Since the ascent took so little time, we had some time to go exploring while we were up there. We went to the second peak which actually involved some intermediate/advanced scrambling. From the first peak it looked as if the second peak was higher and from the second it looked as if the first peak was higher. So, its hard to say. Better go up both to be sure you summited the mountain. Once back at the first peak we scrambled down to the 3rd lower peak. There was definitely some fun scrambling in all this adventure. Once done, we headed back down for food. Definitely a fun day out. I was very pleased by the turnout. I just wish that I can get the same turnout on future trips with the club. ;-)
The route up is straight forward. Park at the turnoff by Bridge Creek about 2 min North East of Two O'Clock Creek campground and follow the ridge up to the summit. Some scrambling at the last section. But it isn't overly exposed. If you bring beginners and they find it too much then you don't have to go all the way to the summit. It is definitely a good test for beginners to find out if they like scrambling. Not just a hike like some beginner scrambles. If your beginners turn out to really like this summit then you can show them some harder scrambling on the second summit
