| Return Hike Photos from Caldron Lake Camp | August 5, 2008 |
On our return day of our 4 day adventure I decided to make a quick side trip before we left to view the 3 lakes at the base of the Mistaya Glacier. The lakes were not all that special but the view back to Caldron Lake from my spot was award winning. I also got a great shot from there for illustrating the scramble route up Mistaya Mountain. The weather was sunny and gorgeous but pretty hot. We got great photos on our way out and found a cool hidden waterfall about 2 minutes away from the main trail. The Peyto Glacier Moraine is quite tiring in heat to hike down and we were glad that on our day in we didn't have this much heat to deal with. After a long hot plod down the valley we slogged back up to Bow Summit and headed home. A fine finish to a great trip

A panorama of the Caldron Lake area. The right moraine behind Caldron Lake was the start of our ascent route up Mistaya Mountain. Once up the moraine we went behind and up to the top of the headwall and hiked along it to the right for awhile to get to Mistaya Mountain. The snow gully on the right is the normal ascent route but involves glacier travel. This can be avoided by scrambling up the left ridge of the gully.
