| Hiking Photos from Coliseum Mountain | April 27, 2008 |
The day after scrambling the South Peak of Mount Stelfox I was looking for an easier day. I decided on Coliseum Mountain by Nordegg. Unfortunately I decided not to bring my snowshoes since the snow at the trailhead was shoe deep. Later the snow was definitely waist deep at points. I managed to make it to the South summit but when I tried to make it to the North summit I ran into severe postholing and had to retreat. My easier day turned out to be very exhausting. Skies would have also been a very welcome alternative for the ascent trail. This mountain is normally ascended via an easy trail and no scrambling is required. Unlike some other mountains in David Thompson Country this one tends to retain a lot of snow. For some reason my original trip report disappeared. It was probably lost when I migrated my site to a new host
